Project Proposal
Statement of Intent
What you intend to design and manufacture and the project specifications.
What is the need for the project to be designed and manufactured/made.
Who would be the intended end user/s.
How are you going to design and use the project. (Here you detail the processes/actions which need to be followed to complete the project.
Project Limitations
Here list the limitations that will be encountered in completing the project.
These would include:
Time
Cost
Skills
Equipment available to make the project.
Criteria for Success
Here you need to indicate how the project will function and be presented aesthetically in order to be a success.
How you will evaluate this?
Areas of Research
What is to be researched for the project, how and why will it be researched.
Here you are mainly looking at:
- Existing designs.
- Materials to be used.
- Joints, finishes, fittings, fitting processes.
- What resources will be used in the research - internet, books, magazines, similar products.
Design Management, Planning and Evaluation - Gantt Chart
What are the proposed start and finish dates.
These evaluations must be made on a regular basis - Formative Evaluations - every two weeks, summative evaluation at the project completion.
There needs to be included two time plans:
- An overview of the project plan.
- A production plan, detailing the production processes, with work in progress images.
Actual Time Plan - Gantt Chart
This will reflect the actual times taken in the project, which can be cross referenced to the proposed plan.
It needs to be progressively completed and needs to indicate the actual use of time. (Realising that marks will be lost if the project is rushed to be done at the last minute and not progressively worked on!)
Your Time Management Evaluation.
(To be completed last of all!)
Your Proposed Finance Plan
This will reflect:
Itemised descriptions of materials used and quantities.
The proposed costs.
The actual costs (compared).
Where in the project is it used.
The Actual Finance Plan
This is completed at project completion.
The Finance Management Evaluation.
Initial Concept Development
Here you detail the original planned ideas, whether by sketches or images, with annotations and evidence a collection of design concepts and ideas.
This should include your first design idea/s which can be rough sketches scanned into the folio.
Then you need to detail why the particular design was chosen. This needs to also include design proposed dimensions and features of the design,
Design Research
Evidence is needed here of your research and reasoning for our choice of the final design chosen in the project proposal. You need to have four or five designs you have researched.
You also need to mention why the final design chosen relates to your project proposal.
Researched Materials
Material Type.
A description of what type of material used and how it is used and how it can be used in the major project.
Components and Fittings to be used in the construction of the design project.
Use images and captions to show what they are.
Then describe what the component is used for and how it is used in the major works project.
Processes
The research and evaluation based on the project proposal, then why/how the processes be used in the construction of the project.
Tools and Equipment to be used in the design construction.
Describe how it will be best used. Include an image.
Further Development and Design Refinement.
Complete as changes are made and not at the end.
Prototyping, Modelling and Testing.
This is documented as it occurs.
Selection and Justification of Materials, Processes, Components and Tools and Equipment. (Use a table format, for ease of description).
Here all of these items are identified and you need to make a conclusion showing where and why they will be used.
Final Evaluation of Project.
Did you achieve what you set out to do?
How could you have improved on the project design, if at all?
Did you manage your time sufficiently on the project?
